A storyboard is a graphic organizer in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence. Before I start creating animations. I use a pencil to sketch my theme and storyline on a paper. I watch the sample videos of the animated explainer videos and got some ideas from there which I renovate and reconstruct with my own ideas. I sketch the parts, objects and texts that are included in this animation. I think of what tweens I will use in which parts, objects or texts. After all the ideas have been listed on the paper, I started creating everything that are necessary for this animation video.
My assignment topic is “What is video streaming?” Streaming video is content sent in compressed form over the Internet and displayed by the viewer in real time. With streaming video, a Web user does not have to wait to download a file to play it. After a brief period of initializing and buffering, the file will begin to stream or play. Nowadays there are so many websites that provide streaming video E.g. YouTube, Vimeo and Metacafe. The picture quality is depends on bandwidth (download speed) and computer processor speed. The user needs a player, which is a program that uncompressed and sends video data to the display. A player can be either an integral part of a browser or downloaded from the software maker’s Web site. Most of the streaming video websites uses integrated flash player which can directly play on the website page without needing any player to download and view it.
Design Ideas & Skills
The whole animation consists of only 1 scene. I choose light blue color for stage. I divided into six parts. First part is the welcome screen part which I use classic tween for both “Welcome” and “Good Morning” text. I add the alpha effect and put some colors to the texts. Second part is about the topic which I use classic tween for text. I create my own iMac and put video in this part. The apple logo which is on the iMac is drawn by me. Third part is the detail explanation of the topic which I use classic tween for all the texts and add alpha effect and add some colors. For the internet logo I use motion tween and add rotations to it. For the laptop I use alpha effect. For the connection dots I use classic tween and add a blue color in ascending order. Fourth part is about showing the example of online video streaming websites. I download three logos from Internet. I use bone tool to create a chain effect. For the text I use classic tween and add rotation to it. Fifth part is also the explanation of the topic. I use classic tween and alpha effects in all the text and also for the two laptops. Sixth part is the end screen. I use classic tween and rotation effect for the text “Thank You!!!” I add a song in the background throughout this whole animation. In second part when the video was playing I put a gap to the song so that the media from both video and music will overlap each other.
I gain so much experience, knowledge and lesson from doing this animation video. I learn new things and test myself to limit by putting video in the animation. There are some difficulties I face during this assignment. The first problem is that my mind is so mix up by the layers because there are so many layers in this animation so, to overcome that I have to name it properly and orderly to the layers one after another. Another problem is about timing the key frames. I have to figure out in which part I have to use how many key frames. The last problem I face is putting a video file in the animation. I have to choose option such as skin and change some setting such as volume and resize it to fit on the iMac screen. I also have to adjust the timeline and key frames in order to overcome the overlapping of media, texts and graphics.
